Trump Featured on New $1 Commemorative Coin, Announces US Treasury

The US Treasury Department has revealed that the US Mint is producing a new commemorative $1 coin featuring President Donald Trump. This initiative is part of the celebrations for the United States’ 250th anniversary. The coin is set to be released this fall, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s history.

According to Treasury officials, the coin’s design was approved earlier this year, although the final version differs slightly from the initial concept. Notably, it will feature a gold-colored finish rather than being made of solid gold. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent explained that the coin is meant to honor America’s enduring legacy of liberty and patriotism, reflecting the country’s values and dedication to freedom.

The front of the coin showcases a portrait of Trump, accompanied by the word “LIBERTY,” the years “1776–2026,” and the phrase “IN GOD WE TRUST.” Meanwhile, the reverse side depicts the traditional bald eagle from the Great Seal of the United States, along with the national motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”

The decision to feature a living president on US currency has sparked controversy, as longstanding federal law typically prohibits such depictions. However, Treasury officials argue that the secretary possesses the authority to approve commemorative coin issues under specific circumstances. This has been cited as the basis for moving forward with the Trump coin.
