Zelenskyy Criticizes Trump’s Pause on Russia Sanctions, Citing Ukraine War Risks

by admin477351

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has voiced concerns over U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to delay new sanctions against Russia, cautioning that such a move might embolden Russian President Vladimir Putin to escalate military actions in Ukraine. Zelenskyy emphasized that maintaining economic pressure is crucial to international efforts aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict.

The proposed sanctions included measures targeting Russia’s energy sector, financial institutions, and oil transportation networks, alongside potential tariffs of up to 100% on countries importing Russian oil, notably China and India. The pause, reportedly set for 60 days, is intended for the U.S. administration to evaluate the economic impacts of these proposed actions.

As Russia continues its assault on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, concerns about electricity shortages and the safeguarding of essential services as winter approaches have intensified. Zelenskyy has called for increased international assistance to bolster Ukraine’s air defense capabilities, aiming to protect civilian populations from further attacks.

Additionally, Zelenskyy has highlighted issues related to the limitations imposed on Starlink satellite internet services utilized by Ukrainian forces. He warned that any disruptions could potentially hinder military operations, underlining the need for reliable communication systems in conflict zones.

This disagreement underscores ongoing differences between Washington and Kyiv regarding sanctions, military support, and strategies to end the war. Zelenskyy continues to advocate for sustained economic and military pressure as vital components in achieving lasting peace with Russia.
