Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has urged a revitalization of relations between Türkiye and the United States, emphasizing the need for enhanced dialogue and cooperation between the two NATO allies. Speaking at the “100 Years of Friendship Gala” in New York, Erdoğan highlighted the positive outcomes that have resulted from past collaborations, especially in addressing international issues in the Middle East.
Erdoğan proposed expanding joint efforts in areas such as nuclear energy, liquefied natural gas, civil aviation, high technology, and the defense industry. He called for the removal of obstacles hindering collaboration and advocated for increased opportunities in joint defense production. Erdoğan underscored Türkiye’s burgeoning defense sector, which has seen exports soar from approximately $248 million two decades ago to over $10 billion today, positioning the country to become one of the world’s top 10 defense exporters.
The Turkish president also extended an invitation to U.S. investors to explore opportunities in Türkiye, citing the country’s new investment incentives and a competitive framework designed to attract foreign investment. This comes as Ankara launches a fresh investment initiative aimed at bolstering economic ties.
U.S. Senator Chris Coons, who was present at the event, highlighted the enduring partnership between the two nations, noting the significant role of business ties and entrepreneurship in fortifying bilateral relations. The gala gathered senior officials and business leaders from both countries to celebrate the diplomatic and economic connections that have been a cornerstone of their relationship.
